Meet The Real Freqs

The Real Frequency

Lets keep the bio short and sweet. The Real Frequency was one of the longest running hip hop radio shows in Toronto, maybe Canada. It started in 1993 at York University’s CHRY 105.5 FM, then moved to Ryerson’s CKLN 88.1 FM in 2001 to hold down one of Canada’s most prestigious times slots, Saturdays 1-4pm.  In 2004 we moved to Toronto’s only “urban” radio station FLOW 93.5 FM, to become Canada’s only “underground” hip hop show on commercial radio. In 2011 the show ended with the sale of the station. It’s a good thing we got to take this snapshot of Toronto hip hop during our time and preserve it in the form of The New North.
